About us
What we are
The Network Insight Institute is an independent, non-profit organisation committed to the future of communications.
We provide independent information, ideas, seminars and publications for the community and industry about the future of media, telecommunications and e-commerce.
We do these things for their own sake: not to make a profit, or to push any product or message.
Publications and Events
We regularly bring together the commercial innovators and drivers in the ICT (information and communications technology) sector. From these events – and associated publications – we forge and deliver top-level industry insights with several important characteristics:
- A focus on the period 2-5 years ahead
- Realistic legislative and policy options, rather than abstract theory
- Co-operation with communications people and firms, as a clearing-house of ideas and information
Areas of analysis
Our focus is on convergence, especially in Australia and other East Asian countries. Special sub-sector interests include:
- telecommunications (access, interconnect, competition, broadband and investment issues)
- radio and television (including datacasting, HDTV and multichannel digital broadcasting)
- e-commerce
- freedom of communication
- media content (including legal and ethical principles)
- new channels (broadband, satellite and digital))
- Internet governance and censorship
Underwriting our Independence
We provide objective, independent analysis of issues. We do not engage in advocacy or lobbying. We don't do consulting work, and we do not accept government funding. This is to ensure that people will know when dealing with us that we are truly independent.
The Institute is financially supported by sponsors, who make annual donations. They are major players in media, ICT and telecoms; plus professional services firms. The names of all sponsors are displayed on this website, at events, and in our publications. Financial support from so many competing firms and sectors underwrites our independence.
